Soldiers and Rappers

Our FHE (family home evening) lesson was about putting on the whole armor of God. It went really well. Tony gave a great lesson and talked about us standing together as a family and fortifying ourselves against the evils of the world and how to protect ourselves against temptation and despair and being prepared. Good job hon, it was one of the best lessons we've ever had, actually. We collected armor for the young'uns and Conner was looking soldieresque (do you love my liberal use of the English language?) Really ready to face the world there kiddo. A shining beacon during dark times. Now because each child needs an equal chance to put on that armor of righteousness we also collected (leftovers) for the other child in our family. Nothing says preparation like rain boots, a bicycle helmet, and brother's old basketball shorts. In fact when all was said and done, she looked a bit like MC Hammer (does that date me or what?) That's either a shield or one serious piece of bling!

What has been your favorite FHE? You know you want to tell me...besides I love new ideas!

My favorite FHE was when we put the kids in our room to watch TV while mommy and daddy watch Heroes!
NO, I think my most recent fave was just after we bought a new camera we were in teams and took pictures of different things and the other team had to guess what it was. I always like the field trips, too. Lessons are so hard with wee ones but we keep trying! I love the armor of God idea!

So cute!
Noelle just gave an awesome lesson she created completely on her own. It isn't a new idea, but her thinking of it and creating it on her own was meaningful for her. She made a game with good and bad choices and everyone took turns picking a paper with a choice on it and saying whether it was good or bad. If it was good, the person got a sticker, if it was bad, they got a sad face on their paper. Shaylor, in particular, loved it. Then she bore her testimony and it was the most pure, unscripted and honest testimony I've heard her give.
One time, everyone got a piece of paper with their name on it and we passed the papers around and had everyone write on each person's paper what they loved about that person. Then, that person got a crown, or cowboy hat (we do our best!), and got to sit on a throne while we read to them why each person loves them. Talk about self-esteem building...it was awesome. We video taped the reading part of it.

This sounds great!
Our best have always been where we act something out.
Once we did something with the stripling warriors and I loved when I had the kids act out the story of the Good Samaratian. Cam was the wounded man, Dane was the Samaratian. Ella was every body else.

That's a great idea for FHE! We'll have to do that sometime. Our FHEs have been very basic since John is only 3. We've found through trial and error that keeping it short, simple, and age-appropriate is the key to having good FHEs with young ones.

Hey I came upon your blog through Shauna. I love this FHE lesson. It goes right along with a book I am reading right now called "Armor" and it is about putting on the whole armor of God. Love it! And like you with 18-month old crumbs ground into the carpet, I've got a 10 and 18 year old at home that still do the same!! Never ends.
