A Little of This, A Little of That

My brother, who takes any picture that looks fantastic on this blog, and his wife are moving to Missouri for school. We will sure miss them, but are excited for them too. :) It reminds me of living in Virginia 15 min. outside of D.C. right after Tony and I were married. We LOVED it! Even though I had to work two jobs to keep us afloat, and the people whose basement we rented were going through a bitter and LOUD divorce at the time. Oh, and the guys who parked their van behind mine in two different parking lots and tried to sell me some cool stereo equipment. I loved all the trees, and the rolling hills, and the people, and the history. I loved visiting D.C. when ever we could and soaking it all in. I was truly out of my comfort zone, and it was an adventure. I will never forget it. So Dave and Beth, even though my pictures on this blog will suffer greatly, I have a feeling that this will be an experience you guys will never forget :)

My daughter has had a cold since 2009 started. RSV, two double ear infections, and now just an EVERLASTING runny nose. What can I do? I give her 2 multivitamins a day, vitamin C, acidopholus...any ideas? We've taken her to the Dr. multiple times and she's been on antibiotics for the infections and Dimetapp for the cold, but I don't want her on that forever. Could it be her two year molars coming in? Poor girl, I feel so bad for her... It couldn't be because she does this...or this...right? :)

My dad turns 65 on Monday. He got called to jury duty and has to report...on Monday. Happy Birthday DAD :)

I'm an all or nothing type of gal. I will either eat my weight in cheese or shun it altogether. The amount of time I was spending on the computer was bothering me. I would get 'sucked in' every time I walked into the kitchen (where our computer is) so to combat the problem, I would just turn it off. When I would turn it back on however, I would have emails piled up and blogs to read and I would still end up online for too long. Then there's the Good Reads factor. I could spend half my life on that site. So, after a lot of thought and some significant soul searching, I have come to a conclusion: M-F I will set the timer. 60 min. online a day. Weekends off. Yesterday, was my first official 'hour.' Never has an hour flew by so fast!! I end up having to write out a list I need to do for today. Luckily, I write out my posts longhand, so that cuts out on time, but I couldn't believe how fast it went. I may not get to your blogs everyday, but I will do my best to reach everyone's blogs every week.

PS- I'm shouting out my cute bloggy buddy Devri. I totally missed her contest, but she is so talented and makes the most adorable tutus and headbands. She's sick right now, so feel better soon Devri!!

I think it's good to set limits. I have a lot of time at work, but I shouldn't be online so much there.

I have a hard time on the computer, too. I could sit here all day reading blogs and blog-surfing.

The pictures of your little girl are adorable, snot present or not:)

I totally could have written your post about the computer. I wish I could put it somewhere besides the kitchen...I think it would be easier. I turn it off most of the day, but once it's on, it's tough to stay off! The timer is a good idea. I may try that.

Have you tested your daughter for allergies? I wouldn't be surprised if that was the issue.

What a fun adventure for your brother!

And I get the computer thing too. I am being better myself at setting limits, but it's still hard!

My computer has become my Callgon, too! I need to set limits on myself but I don't really believe in improving myself. It's against my (made-up) religion. You should totally join!

I am sure the colds and RSV and other viruses have NOTHING to to with her making out with everyone and sticking her fingers in germ invested mouths! It must be the planet's alignment for sure!!

I *heart* you!! oh, and good luck to your bro! What an adventure!!

PS.. While I was writing this my 20 month old was sitting on my table finishing off my Diet Coke(watered down with ice, I swear!!)! Why on earth would I need to limit my time on the computer?????

Oh Rachel, you flatter us. We are very excited and hope that everything goes well for us too. And I think your blog will do very well regardless of the pictures...it's the wording that makes the blog...love you and see you soon.

So sorry your little girl is sick! I've determined that next year we will become inactive from Church during the months of February and March. Almost every week like clockwork - Wednesday morning - the kids get sick with whatever is going through the Nursery at the time. Ugh.

And happy birthday to your dad! Mine turned 65 a few weeks ago, and was stoked to get his senior-rate fishing license. :)

Good limits with the computer. I think we must all be in this boat. I need a timer as well. And I may not be as good a bloggy friend because of it. But I may just be a better mom.

Your brother is a talented photographer. Good luck to them in Missouri. I'm sorry your little cutie has been sick for so long. Hopefully once spring really comes and she can get out in the fresh air that will help. And I know what you mean about the computer taking so much time. It can be a tough balancing act. I love GoodReads too and I always like reading your reviews there.

Okay, several things. First of all, did you know Devri used to live across the street from me? She moved, but we are still in teh same town and talk several times a week! She is a great girl. Second, on the topic of ear infections, I found something years ago that has gotten rid of my kids' ear infections. It is called E-3 oil and it contains garlic oil and several other soothing ingredients. You can get it at health food stores and I LOVE it! My first experience with it, I had taken my son in to the doctor. he found double ear infections and prescribed an antibiotic. I was scheduled to take my other child in the next week. I went home and tried the E3 oil and never used the antibiotic. The next week when we went back in, I asked the doctor to look at my sons ears and the infection was gone. I didn't tell him what I had done! But, now, I do talk to our Dr. about using it and he says keep using it.
You just put several drops in their ears several times a day and then stick some cotton in to keep the oil in for a while. I have found that antibiotics just start a cycle of more problems becsue they destroy all the good bacteria, weakening the immune system. And medical studies have now found that most ear infection will heal all on their own without antibiotics. You may have already known that, but I thought I'd share.
On the subject of computer time, I know exactly what you mean. I have been thinking long and hardabout this and I'm cutting down big time. I'm goin gto post about this today.

I'm sorry CCs been so sick. We've had a perpetual runny nose since the end of January. Such is life for a toddler, I suppose. I hope she feels better soon!

Stratton catches everything that is in the air too. I have had a heart to stop sending him to preschool all together. I hope CC gets feeling better soon.

I have a husband who is very good about reminding me when I have been on the computer too long. When he is not home. I have the same problems you do. Maybe I will try the timer. I ues it for every thing else that I forget.

I know what you mean about spending too much time on the computer. There are just too many blogs to read and so little time. I like your idea of setting a time limit for yourself...I might just do the same.

Beautiful picture of your daughter! Hope she feels better soon.

Hey, thank you for your comment on my blog. Also, have I ever told you that my favorite book EVER (outside the scriptures) is Bonds That Make Us Free? I had Dr. Warner for philosophy at BYU. That man changed my life.

Hey, you have one CUTE wee girl! I have some ideas re the ear infections. The doctors will tell you that this won't make a difference but it WILL! I cannot stress enough to get her OFF DAIRY products. Milk especially. Get her some good quality probiotics. Liquid form that you need to refrigerate. Ask at the Health food store which one they recommend for children. Acidophilus is the least effective of the lot and cannot withstand stomach acid very well so it will not get to where it needs to go. I have a few more ideas...you can email me at bluemags-at-gmail.com. I have not had to take my children to the doctor for seven years.
