As we teeter here on the very edge of a long awaited season, I am reminded of an annual phenomenon. Every beautiful spring morning, I am gently awakened by a sound that's so natural and pure that I truly feel as if I am one with nature. That sound my friends, is the birds outside my bedroom window.
I suppose at some point, it must begin with one sustained note, but by the time I drift into consciousness there's a tweetanacle choir. You see, I do love birds. Yes, I am a bird enthusiast. These birds however, have an agenda. There's a birdie brawl in my tree, a "rumble" if you will.
There are no winners in this sad tale. The two opposing gangs of ferocious fowl shout out threatenings that would shock and dismay you. Now bear in mind, these are authentic calls:
"Aackaackaackaackaackaackaackaack"
"Oh yah! AACKAACKAACKAACKAACKAACKAACKAACKAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"TWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
So as we approach my favorite season of the year, my darling son brings home his bird feeder he
made from cub scouts and desires to place in the tree of tiny tweeting terrorists.
Did you hear that my flighty feathered fugitives? Free breakfast served at 6AM!
And don't tweet with your mouth full...
PS-haven't posted forever, but shouting out my super talented friend Kerri. Check out her beautiful delicious looking handmade soaps @ www.messesandmudpies.com

You know, I've never really paid that much attention to birds, but I do love how they signify spring.
Thanks for shouting me out! That was sweet of you!
I LOVE the sound of birds and even though some people might get sick of it, I never do!
First of all, I love that song, "In the Leafy Treetops!" It seems like they just don't sing those kinds of songs in primary anymore. And I too have noticed the birds lately, I love their music. I have seen you out and about walking around the neighborhood lately. When I saw you, it made me sad to realize I am leaving the stroller stage behind...Having a little one to push around is such a great excuse to get out and walk. It was always one of my very favorite things!
He he he.
Do you know how photogenic you are? You look beautiful as ever!
Where's my shout out..
totally kidden.. I heart Kerri, she is one of my only real life friends..
Beautiful Family Photo! As far as birds go, I dread spring for the swallows that attach themselves to my front porch and attempt to murder anyone who comes near. Maybe with a new place I won't have the same problem!
Love the new pic! That is my favorite part of srping, too! I love bird fights bright and early in the morning! We also have these birds who try building a nest in our BBQ every year! I swear it's the same 2 birds everytime! We let them once which was really cool to watch these baby birds hatch and grow but it took forever and we wanted our grill back. Needless to say, we stopped letting them after that first time!
PS- I heart you!! Are you writing our roadshow yet?? ;)
My son absolutely loves birds but since being in Australia on his mission he says he is now ready to slap a cockatoo because of the noise they make every morning.
I think that those same birds dwell in my trees!
I almost wish I had some birds outside of my window--even warring birds.
I love the new picture at the top of your blog. So good of everyone!
I love hearing the birds and knowing that it means spring and summer are really on their way. it is a nice reassurance that God really is there and still loves me. because I really hate winter.
My hubby is also a bird enthusiast and actually took a class so he could distinguish their calls. It's pretty crazy how he can hear a "twwwwweet" and a "tweeeeeet" and know that it's two different birds...when all I hear is "tweet"!
I love the new family photo. And hooray for spring!!
You know how I feel about birds. Now, if my trees would just grow a little taller, they may want to hang out in my trees! BTW, I've been singing that "In the Leafy Treetops" to all three of my babies. I love it!
Ya for spring and warm weather! Guess I'll have to see where Conner decided to put his bird feeder the next time I'm over. By the way the Ghost story you wrote really intrigued me. I have to know more....
I have an "acker" outside my window only it's the next-door neighbours baby and the "ack" is more of a "scream".
Ahhh, spring is here!
I love to wake up to them as well. We have so many in our yard - it's like an aviary.
I just love hearing birds singing in the morning, my most favorite part of spring. Have a great week.
I feel the same way as you do about birds (no surprise there) and although I don't have a rumble, I do have an extremely ornery Stellar's jay momma who doesn't like me to clean the pine needles out of my ivy. You've reminded me, not only of this sweet little song, but also of the 'twitter-paited song' from Bambi.
I love your new family picture. It is beautiful!
I recognized the sound of the first bird as being a magpie. They scold everybody not just other birds.
As welcome as spring is, it was also a bit of welcome to find you had written on your blog again. Don't make us wait so long.
I like birds too, especially since moving to Connecticut, and I LOVE the sound of waking up to them in the morning. It hasn't gotten warm enough here yet to open the windows...I can't wait for that!
I like the new look of your blog and the family photo up top is such a nice one.
I too love the sounds of birds in the springtime! In the summer we have so many that it sounds like a rain forest in our backyard.
Love your new family photo on your blog....So cute!
I am so loving the new header, Rachel. You and your entire family look absolutely lovely!
Oh, and I have too learned to never, ever trust birds. They always have a hidden agenda.

I don't know about those birds Rach. Haven't you seen that Hitchcock movie? Yikes! I'm still terrified-- and definitely have an animosity towards those obnoxious magpies. Oh well, to each her own. :) Love you!
Yes we are teetering on the brink of spring. I belive there are cousin birds living in our yard that speak the same bird chat. They are loud and they eat anything that we grow in our yard. None the less we still love them and would never want a morning to start out any other way than with their welcoming songs waking us from our deep night slumbers..
This post was so cute. Just like your new blog decor and family pic at the top!
